Lasius americanus

Lasius americanus is our personal favorite beginner species. These ants are perfect for new keepers for a variety of reasons. They grow quickly but not overwhelmingly so, are tolerant to minor mistakes, accept a wide variety of foods, and are relatively easy to contain. Plus, they are highly active and entertaining to observe! Additionally, since they are established in all 48 contiguous U.S. states, there is a lower risk of ecological impact in the event of an accidental release. Even experienced keepers will enjoy the stress-free care of Lasius americanus. Trust us, this species is a must-have for any ant collection.
