Camponotus chromaiodes
Camponotus chromaiodes
Camponotus chromaiodes is a visually striking carpenter ant species characterized by their dual tone, red and black, coloring. Similar to many carpenter ant species, Camponotus chromaiodes offers ease of care, controlled colony growth, distinct caste morphology, and they have trouble escaping due to their size! Their robust appetites make them non-discriminatory feeders, with a particular fondness for honey water, requiring a consistent supply of sugars to ensure their well-being.
These ants exhibit a degree of shyness until their colonies mature. However, because of their size, activities within the outworld are more easily observed compared to smaller species. A diapause (hibernation) period of approximately three months at around 50°F, starting in mid-December, is imperative for their health.
We highly recommend Camponotus species such as these to enthusiasts who appreciate larger ant species, seek a simplified care regimen, and desire effortless maintenance.
